Dynamics and more News

Project success is a strong differentiator!

Last week I attended the DynamicsMinds event in beautiful Portoroz, Slovenia. While it was my first time attending this relatively new event, I realized that I’ve been there before. My presentation at the annual Slovenian NT Conference in 2003 (!) marked the start of my journey as an international speaker. In the very same city. And in the very same hotel!

In my experience, Dynamics Minds is completely different from the many dozens Microsoft events that I’ve visited during the last 20 years both as a speaker and attendee. Including events like WPC/Inspire, DIRECTIONS, eXtreme and SUMMIT.

Dynamics Minds is friendly, enjoyable, involved and at times even magic on the one hand. While it is also businesslike and to the point on the other side. Definitely a surprising and very attractive combination!

My session was all about the importance of Project Success. And more specifically: Project Success for the customer! 😊

I started my session with some music from Talking Heads. More specific the ‘Road to nowhere’ – referring to the poor results of CRM and ERP projects when partners purely focus on product delivery.

Next was a provoking quote from independent consultant Third Stage Consulting, stating that “Microsoft’s D365 resellers network arguably is the product’s biggest weakness”.

We then moved to 10 important elements for achieving Project Success, including:

  • The right expectation management
  • Limiting or avoiding customisations
  • Structured customer preparation
  • Strong and honest cooperation
  • Better project kick-off’s
  • Compensating your team on Project Success (not on revenue!)
  • Focus on Project Success is the strongest possible differentiator

The time available was of course far too short for this important subject. Since there are so many domains where Microsoft Dynamics 365 partners can and should improve! Despite this, the feedback was exceptionally good.

Whitepaper

I’ve offered my audience a valuable whitepaper on the importance of Project Success, called: ‘It’s time to modernise your methodologies and team attitude’.

Finally regarding the Dynamics Minds event: the fourth edition will take place from 25 to 27 May 2026 again in beautiful Portoroz. Ticket sales have already started.

See you there?
